Radiation Oncologist Meeting and Third Chemo Treatment

On Friday we met with Holly's Radiation Oncologist to discuss the plan for radiotherapy after chemo is done. This appointment was to meet the doctor and get a general idea of what Radiation Therapy entails, she'll meet with the doctor again closer to treatment time to get more information. Since this was the first meeting with this doctor I was allowed to attend in person as well.
During the meeting we received the unpleasant news that Holly will need more surgery to remove the remaining lymph nodes in her left armpit. The doctor said that it's standard procedure to remove the remaining lymph nodes in the affected armpit if cancer traces are found in more than two lymph nodes, in Holly's case cancer traces were found in four of the five lymph nodes removed. We were confused and frustrated that this information wasn't relayed to us sooner if her results clearly dictated she was in store for more surgery, it adds an unexpected emotional hurdle at time when we thought we had a clear treatment plan in place.
Holly will be scheduling another consultation with the surgeon in June. Surgery will need to occur after chemo is done, then four to six weeks later radiotherapy can begin. The treatment plan will probably be fifteen sessions total spread over three weeks.
Today Holly also had her third chemo session, so she's now officially past the 1/3 mark. So far she's feeling fairly tired with some nausea, but mostly ok. This is pretty consistent with the last few sessions.
Hopefully she'll feel mostly recovered by Friday in time to get out and enjoy some sun again! We were able to enjoy the great weather this weekend by visiting the Fairy Garden at Redwood Park and had a fun time at Coquitlam River too!
Thanks again to everyone for your support, hopefully as the weather turns around we'll be able to get in some socially distanced visits to keep Holly's spirits high.

We are sorry to hear that you will need additional surgery and that your journey forward is a certain amount more complicated than it seemed. We are praying for gifts of healing and patience and hope for all of you.
With love,
Aunt Carol and Uncle Steve
