Holly spoke to the surgeon yesterday and received a few more details and the results of the sentinel node biopsy.
The tumor was very large at just over 10cm. The surgeon said the margins (the rim of healthy tissue surrounding the tumor) were clear of cancer which is great news, but the bad news is it has spread to the lymph nodes. During her surgery five lymph nodes were removed to do pathology on, four out of five show cancer cells.
Because of this she will definitely be proceeding with chemotherapy as part of her treatment plan. The surgeon said she'll have a CT scan in three months after chemo has begun to see if there is cancer in any of the remaining lymph nodes. At that point a decision on whether additional surgery is needed to remove more lymph nodes can be made. If the chemotherapy was effective she'll probably proceed to radiation therapy without further surgery.
We will be seeing the oncologist on Thursday and should get a lot more detail regarding treatment.
Thanks again for all your love and support! It has been so helpful as we continue through this difficult time.

Holly, you are so much in our hearts during these difficult days of your journey through pain and uncertainty. If you need a prayer while waiting for an appointment, in the middle of a procedure, or lying awake in the night, these three simple words are never offered up in vain: "Abide With Me". New music to these familiar words with the power to heal: https://youtu.be/8qJrihYY4Kk
We love you.
While I am sad to hear that this journey will be longer and harder than expected, I trust that God will be with you every step of the way. This Easter weekend we remember that Jesus' sacrifice for us at Gethsemane means that he loves me! He loves you, Holly, and I pray that He will be especially close to you and your family.
Robyn, David, Dean, Blair, Luke and Lise...and the whole family send love😍🐇 and wish you a Happy Ester with your family.
Happy Easter everyone. Keep those positive thoughts and we will keep our prayer chain going for you Holly. You are a little survivor and I know your going to kick this awful disease. Much love sent to you and family. xo
